Abortion Fights are About Fear

‪It’s an absurd supposition, i.e. bases for an argument, that those who are against abortion care about life. We hear staunch leftists say, If you care about life, do something about climate change, or war, or health care, or any similar, equally preposterously fallacious comparisons. The logical traction for an argument is missing in any such plea because the desire for Life of Others isn’t intrinsic in the desire for a ban on abortions. It just isn’t. And we’re not going to waste time discussing otherwise because what this fight for abortion rights or fight against abortion is really all about, at its core and like so many other things that divide us so deeply, is a need for personal meaning.

Let’s trace that back to find out what that means and why it’s true:

1) People who are “pro life” or “pro choice” are such because of their personal values. ‬

‪2) Whether religion, philosophy, spirituality, history, or the occult, these people depend on their personal values to give their lives meaning, we could even say give their lives meaning on an everyday basis. ‬

‪3) If that meaning is lost (completely, and not instantly replaced) a person enters a worst of the worst kind of psychological realm, filled with: fear, panic, dissonance, terror; basically torture of the mind, which, needless to say, he is disposed to avoid at all costs. It’s kind of like standing on the 60th floor of a skyscraper when the 59 floors below you disappear in a wink. ‬

‪4) So when their personal values are threatened, people become angry, absurdly so, and they lash out. This happens on both sides. ‬

‪5) This is why people live in communities (groups) with others who share their values. Quite often that also means shared backgrounds, which means shared heritage, race, creed, and so on. The do not want their values questioned. Period. Why: it’s fucking scary to have 59 floors below you vanish..‬

‪6) As our worlds get smaller, we appear to one another to be closer than ever before. That means someone in Arkansas is able to threaten my values if I live in Oregon. That’s some scary shit. ‬

‪7) Usually, we’d draw boarders and set up new governments and go to war and kill each other. But (dammit) we live in the United States. The union won’t last forever, but it’s not going to break up any time soon. ‬

‪8) So we fight desperately for our values in our state courts and legislatures, and then at the national level. ‬

‪9) Which means the fight over abortion was never about life or death of others. The supposed care for the fetus or the care for the octogenarian or the care for the immigrant is just a ruse people deploy to make themselves feel not-terrified-as-shit. The whole fight is entirely selfish. It’s nothing more than a care for yourself because by supporting what you think is “right,” you are supporting your personal values and keeping your fragile mind/psyche in one piece. ‬

‪10) There’s nothing worse than living with a chaotic mind, so these brutal fights over abortion or borders seem to be necessary unless we want to live in an authoritative state, which, frankly, is why many people backed Mussolini in the 1930s, and why India backs Modi now; order is simply more valuable to a human subconscious than freedom to a human conscious. Therefore, and as my USC friends would say‬,

‪11) Fight on. ‬

Post-script: If libs want to protect Roe v. Wade, they should not file challenges to new anti-abortion laws in Georgia, Missouri, etc. for 6 years; if a case doesn’t come before SCOTUS, a precedent can’t be overturned.
